Sillim or Sillim-dong is a statutory division of Gwanak District, Seoul, South Korea. Seoul National University and Nokdu Street is located in the town.[1] Its name means "new forest", which was derived from the woods outstretched from Mt. Gwanak.[2] It consists 11 administrative neighbourhoods.

A few years ago, the neighborhood was suddenly flooded with talking bars, massage parlors and other (sex-related) shops," said a student who asked to remain anonymous, having lived in the area from 2000-2007.
"The examinees generally became more affluent than the previous generation and even those who were not were easily influenced by the decadence."
He explained that Shillim-dong is now known by many as a place to enjoy easy and cheap sexual entertainment and that some even come from far away to visit the neighborhood for such reasons.
